A gold label on a Hudson Bay 4-point blanket indicates a vintage blanket, specifically from a period around the 1930s to 1940s where Hudson's Bay Company used gold labels on their blankets.
As the trappers would sell and exchange these blankets, the thin black lines running along the side became a shorthand so that during the sale they could size the blankets without having to unfurl them. The point system was invented by French weavers in the mid 18th century as a means of indicating the size of a blanket. This shifted from time to time. Today, Hbc blankets are available in point sizes: 3.5 (twin), 4 (double), 6 (queen), and 8 (king).
