An icon around the central coast of California, Andersen's  Restaurant and their pea soup are known far and wide.  Pea Soup Andersen's is a well-known restaurant with a long history in California, famous for its split pea soup and roadside appeal. Founded in 1924 in Buellton by Anton and Juliette Andersen, the restaurant initially started as Andersen's Electrical Cafe, named after their new electric stove. Juliette's pea soup recipe quickly became a customer favorite, leading to the restaurant's focus on this dish.

In 1947, the restaurant was renamed Pea Soup Andersen's, and the characters Hap-Pea and Pea-Wee, created by Disney-trained artist Milt Neil, became the restaurant's mascots.

The restaurant expanded with a second location in Santa Nella in 1976, which remains open, while the original Buellton location closed in January 2024 for redevelopment.

The Buellton location was known for serving approximately 2 million cups of soup annually during its peak. The Santa Nella location continues to operate, offering the classic pea soup and other home-style meals, and includes a bakery and gift shop. The restaurant also sells canned soups.

The restaurant's historical significance and recognizable characters make items like this bowl sought after by collectors and those who appreciate the nostalgia associated with Pea Soup Andersen's.
