"Egyptian" is a notable artwork created in 1991 by the Austrian-American contemporary artist Paul Zwietnig-Rotterdam (born 1939).

Paul Zwietnig-Rotterdam holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Vienna and previously served as a lecturer in Visual Studies at Harvard University's Carpenter Center.  He is highly regarded for his abstract, minimalist, and often monochromatic or reduced-color works. His pieces frequently play with texture, deep spatial depth, and physical forms that project three-dimensionally off the canvas or paper. While his earlier career focused heavily on strict geometric minimalism, by the late 1980s and early 1990s, his work evolved to incorporate organic forms and impressions of nature.

The year 1991 marked a prominent period for the artist’s works on paper and drawings, highlighted by major presentations such as his inclusion in the Le Cabinet des Dessins exhibition at the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul, France. His pieces from this era typically employ media like graphite, charcoal, pastel, or oil on paper to create highly tactile, evocative textures.

The Paul Z. Rotterdam (American/Austrian, born 1939) work on paper from 1991 would sell at auction for likely between $1,000 and $1,500 - and online pricing is closer to $2,000.  His highest priced piece sold for $21,200.
