These types of boxes were often used for storing small items like jewelry, trinkets, or powders on a vanity or dresser.  Each individually priced and sold. 

 

Rectangular:  This dressing table box has an octagonal hobnail cut glass base with star bottom, with a silver top featuring Joshua Reynolds Angels.Hallmarks on top "WJM &Co, Birmingham, England.  The top was made by Silversmith W.J. Myatt & Co and Hallmarked in the Birmingham Assay Office in 1908. 3 3/16" long x 1 3/4" base width. Height 1 3/16".


Oval:  Lovely sterling silver lid atop a ribbed glass jar for the dressing table. 3.50"h x 2.75"w.   Ornate scrolls on lid, monogrammed indecipherable (maybe PMM?).  Markings indicate the silver was assayed in Birmingham, that the silver meets the sterling standard of 92.5% purity and the year of 1907.  

 

Round:  1.5"h x 1.75" diameter.  Ribbed glass.  No hallmark.  Silver lid depicts floral repousse, two cherubs and a bow.

 

Heart Shaped:   Late 19th Century, heart shaped vanity jar with repousse sterling silver lid and cut crystal bottom made by Foster & Bailey Providence Rhode Island.   It's stamped F & B Sterling 703. Dimensions: 2.5ʺW × 2.5ʺD × 1.75ʺH.  No cracks or chips.  Currently selling on Chairish for $120.
