This vintage brass peacock was once used to hold kohl for eyeliner. The use of kohl as eyeliner dates back to the 1800's and is used in many cultures including the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. The peacock's head serves as the applicator and screws off from the head.
 
The tail is hinged and would be great to repurpose as an incense holder.
